Deep-Heating Pack Therapy
Moist heat, deep into muscle
Delivered with the Chattanooga Hydrocollator

Moist heat packs are stored in a Hydrocollator unit, a stainless steel tank that keeps them at a consistent therapeutic temperature in hot water. When applied to the injured area, the packs deliver soothing moist heat to the muscles below.
Research suggests heat therapy may provide a small, short-term reduction in pain and stiffness, and it is generally well tolerated. It is often one of the first steps in a visit, helping relax tight muscles before adjustment or hands-on care.
What it can help with
- Muscle tightness and spasm
- Neck and back stiffness
- Chronic muscle tension
- Reduced range of motion
- Preparing the body before adjustment
What a session is like
The pack is wrapped in several layers of toweling and placed over the treatment area while you rest comfortably. The warmth builds gradually and stays comfortable for the length of the session, typically 15 to 20 minutes.
Who it may not be right for
- Areas with poor circulation or reduced skin sensation
- Recently irradiated, fragile, or broken skin
- An acute injury with active swelling or bleeding
When to seek emergency care
Heat therapy treats comfort and mobility and is not a substitute for emergency care. Seek immediate medical attention for numbness, weakness, loss of movement, or any change in bladder or bowel control.

Common questions
How is this different from a heating pad at home?
A household heating pad produces dry heat. Hydrocollator packs deliver moist heat, which many patients find more soothing and comfortable, applied under professional supervision as part of a care plan.
Is the heat uncomfortable?
No. The packs are wrapped in layers of toweling so the warmth builds gradually and stays comfortable. Your comfort is checked throughout, and the layers can be adjusted at any time.
Is heat therapy included in lien-based care?
For eligible accident and injury cases treated on a lien, heat pack therapy may be part of your care plan with $0 out of pocket to begin care, subject to attorney approval and lien terms.
